Exam rules at the Department of Physics

The exam rules are decided by the Director of undergraduate studies 2011-09-23 and are mostly based on the rules determined for Stockholm University as a whole. It is the examinee's responsibility to know and follow these rules. The rules at examinations at the Department of Physics are:

    1. Examinees responsibility to follow the rules
      The examinee has to follow the instructions from the invigilator. The examinee has to let the invigilator inspect an identiy card or passport and brought material.
    2. Identity check and signature
      The examinee has to show an approved ID. Approved IDs are driver's license, passport and other ID cards. If the ID has been stolen, a police report indication that it is stoeln (maximum three months old) is also valid. Also foreign ID cards are approved, preferrably passport or ID cards. The examinee has to enter his/her name and personal number (or at an anonymous examination the anonymous identification code) according to the invigilator's instructions. An approved ID should be placed at the writing place during the exam.
    3. Placement in examination room
      Lists for placement in the examination room can occur. Examinees that have not registered for a reexamination ahead of time can only attend if there is place available (at the regular examination, registered students are automatically registered for the exam). The examinees must follow the instructions from the invigilators regarding placement in the examination room.
    4. Personal belongings
      The examinee must follow the invigilator's instrucitons on where to put bags and other personal belongings. Mobile phones and other non-approved technical equipment must be turned off during the examination and placed among the personal belongings.
    5. Aids
      Only aids approved beforehand by the course examinator may be brought to the examination. For aids that can store, emit or transfer information, e.g. pocket calculators with the posibility to store data, this requirement also applies to information in or that can be emitted from the aid. Mobile telephones can never be an approved aid.

      Only those aids listed on the exam may be used. All other aids are forbitted. Graphing calculators or more advanced calculators are only allowed if explicitly mentioned on the exam. Calculators are available for loan in case he exam allows calculators and the examinee does not have an allowed model.
    6. Paper
      The exam may only be written on papers handed out by the invigilator. This also applies to scrap paper.
    7. Prohibition to leave the examination room earlier than after 30 mintues
      Examinee that wants to abort the examination must not leave the examination room earlier than 30 minutes afte the starting time of the examination. Examinee that arrives at the examination after the first 30 minutes of the examination time can only participate in the examination if no other examinee has been outside the examination room or left the room.
    8. Prohibition for examinees to communicate
      Communication between examinees or between an examinee and outsiders, for example via mobile phone, is not allowed until after everyone that has participated in the examination has handed in their exams to the invigilator. This prohibition applies both in the examination room and outside during any toilet visits.
    9. Pause and toilet visits
      At examinations longer than five hours, there has to be a pause of 30 minutes. Invigilators will give instructions on which toilets that may be used and examinee has to follow the instructions from the invigilators. For toilet visits, the examinee should write his/her name and the time of the visit on a toilet list. Only one person at a time. The examinee is not allowed to leave the examination room for other reasons without special permission.
    10. Submission
      The examination must not be taken out of the examination room. The examinee must hand it to an invigilator when leving the exam. Note that even an "empty" exam must be submitted.
    11. Obligation by disturbing examinee to leave
      Examinee that has behaved disturbingly should on invigilator's request leave the exam room. Disturbing behaviour can lead to disciplinary actions.
    12. Cheating
      Examinee that is suspected of cheating can continue the examination if the examinee shows and relinquishes the forbidded aid. The invigilator shall offer the examinee the possibility to replace the forbidded aid with an approved copy. Examinee that refuses to show or relinquish aids are not allowed to continue the examination. Any cheating or disturbing behaviour will be handled by the Rektor as a disciplinary matter after report from the prefekt / directory of studies.
    13. In case of fire alarms, bomb threats or similar events
      In case of fire alarm, bomb threats or similar events, the examinee has to follow the instructions from the invigilators. In these cases, the examination room should be evacuated immediately and the the invigilators automatically become evacuation leaders. At an evacuation, the examinees are not allowed to talk to each other to allow for the possibility to resume the examination after the fire alarm is over. The main invigilator shall after discussions with the Department tell the examinees if the examination can be resumed or not.

    Violation of these rules can lead to disciplinary actions.
