Science for a healthier Baltic Sea
The Baltic Sea ecosystem is under strong influence of emissions, overfishing, nutrient load and various forms of coastal development. Furthermore, the climate change also affects the Baltic Sea and its limited number of species, which can cause immediate changes in the food web. In order to solve the environmental problems in the Baltic Sea, it is important that available knowledge is gathered and presented in a holistic way.
A team of researchers with strong international scientific networks together with skilled communicators are going to meet the need of accessible knowledge for the public and policy makers in order to improve the Baltic Sea environment.
Baltic Eye was formed in 2013 when the foundation BalticSea2020 ventured a strategic partnership together with Stockholm university and the Stockholm university Baltic Sea Center. The foundation provided the Baltic Sea Centre with 100 MSEK to employ new researchers, communicators and carry out Baltic Eye's activites.
The aim for the Baltic Eye team is to:
- Gather, analyze and synthesize the scientific knowledge about the Baltic Sea ecosystem and make it relevant to the society
- Supply accurate, relevant and intelligeble knowledge bases before important political decisions about the Baltic Sea environment
- Keep a continuing dialogue with decision makers
