Since BEAM started in 2010 various meetings and workshops have been held with the aim to promote knowledge exchange between researchers from different research fields, but an important focus is also to offer meeting places for younger scientists.
BEAM seminars, workshops and courses ...
BEAM wish to promote collaboration between experts from different fields and levels in their carreer and stimulate multidisciplinary work on Baltic Sea environmental issues.
Among other events, BEAM researchers have arranged two seminar series aimed at postdoctoral students, a two-day meeting for younger researchers on the Askö Laboratory and workshops on the regulations linked to the Baltic Sea eutrophication decision support system. In order to encourage international networking, funding has been made available to cover travel costs for postdocs and PhDs who wish to present BEAM results at international conferences. One example is the ASLO Ocean Science meeting in Hawaii, where BEAM results were presented during several sessions.
Two PhD courses have been co-organized and financed by BEAM, and during the past three programme years a section of the master programme of the Stockholm Resilience Centre has been developed by BEAM researcher Henrik Österblom.
... to educate a wider audience
The lectures on the postdoctoral courses, as well as other Baltic Sea seminars at Stockholm University, have been video recorded and made available online. The aim with all the BEAM films is to offer current and informative knowledge to other researchers, students and everyone else interested in the development of the Baltic Sea. To the films
