The event was first detected with the Zwicky Transient Facility. It had been ten years since such an event had been observed, and it is the first time that it has been observed in the optical regime. Rare sighting of a luminous jet from a star-eating supermassive black hole
Scientists have observed jets coming from a star being torn apart by a supermassive black hole. The observation has led to two independent publications including researchers at Stockholm University in Nature and Nature Astronomy.
