The Oskar Klein Centre for Cosmoparticle Physics at Stockholm University is announcing twelve postdoctoral research positions addressing fundamental questions about the Universe. The Centre houses research groups from Stockholm University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology. The Centre hosts a vibrant research programme on dark matter, dark energy, transient and multimessenger astrophysics, galaxy evolution, structure formation, and related particle physics questions, including LHC-based studies. Theoretical activities at the Centre include particle and astroparticle phenomenology, neutrino theory, gravitation and string theory. Postdoctoral associates are also welcome to participate in Scientific Programs at Nordita, the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, which bring together groups of leading experts to work on specific topics for extended periods.

Postdoctoral positions are available in the following areas:

  • Instrumentation for axion experiments: a position to work with a large group of researchers at Stockholm University, including members of Dr. Jon Gudmundsson's experimental group, on the development of a novel axion dark matter detector prototype using wire metamaterials.   • Astroparticle physics, theoretical particle physics, and cosmology: a position to work with David Marsh on theory, astroparticle physics and cosmology, with a particular focus on axions. The position is part of the AxionDM research environment. Deadline: 8 Dec 2022 (advert)
     
  • Gamma-ray bursts with Fermi: a position is available in the subject of high-energy astrophysics, with the focus on gamma-ray bursts. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to Felix Ryde’s ongoing work on the prompt phase, including both data analysis as well as theoretical interpretation within the Swedish Fermi collaboration.   • Observational high-energy astrophysics: a position to work with Josefin Larsson on topics in the field of supernovae, gamma-ray bursts and their remnants, primarily using X-ray observations. Deadline: 16 Jan 2023 (advert
     
  • Observational Cosmology and Astrophysics with LSST: a position to work on LSST science in large scale structure, time-domain, and extragalactic astrophysics or cosmology. The candidate will work within a large and vibrant local research community as well as benefiting from membership of the LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration. Deadline: 15 Jan 2023 (advert)
     
  • Fundamental Physics from Populations of Compact Object Mergers: Up to two positions to work with Hiranya Peiris, Daniel Mortlock and collaborators on developing scalable gravitational wave data analysis methods for the efficient scientific exploitation of populations of compact object mergers in the LIGO A+ era.   • Multimessenger astrophysics and cosmology with kilonovae:  Up to four positions are available for a cross-departmental collaborative effort involving observations, modelling and/or interpretation of kilonova and supernova data and synergies with gravitational wave observations. The successful applicants will work with a vibrant local research community, including Anders Jerkstrand, Jesper Sollerman (astronomy) and Ariel Goobar, Hiranya Peiris (physics).   • First light galaxies and reionization with JWST and HST: One, possibly two, positions will be available to work with Matthew Hayes and international collaborations. The topics include observational studies of high-redshift galaxies and the state of the intergalactic medium, using datasets from some of the largest programs awarded in JWST Cycle 1, with HST and ESO/VLT.   Deadline: 2 Dec 2022 (advert)
