Besides his eminent role as the professor in systems ecology, Fredrik was the founding director of the Baltic Nest Institute, and continued to work at the Baltic Sea Centre as a senior advisor.  His passion for marine sciences, his broad knowledge, gentle kindness and helpfulness stimulated us all. Fredrik’s vision was always to combine marine sciences with decision support for environmental management issues and his scientific leadership lead to the formulation of the Baltic Sea Action Plan, one of the most influential international agreement towards a healthier Baltic Sea.

All of us at the Baltic Sea Centre will miss Fredrik very much and our thoughts and compassion go to his family.
