Geothermal gradients in marine sediments provide a basic constraint on many physical, chemical and biological processes occurring below the seafloor. Here we propose building a multi-penetration geothermal profiling tool specifically designed to operate on R/V Electra.

Commercial heat flow probes generally cost in excess of €100 000. However, we will test the use of more simple geothermal profiling tools in marine geosciences that use commercially available miniature temperature loggers.
