Meet Daniel, a Master's student in theoretical physics
Meet Daniel, a Master's student in theoretical physics from the US. He had always wanted to become a professional baseball player, but life had different plans for him.
The research areas span over the beneficial and the detrimental effects of radiation, topics in the field of radiation applied to medicine, including diagnostics and radiation therapy and radiation protection.
We perform research projects in the areas of accelerator physics, detectors for nuclear and particle physics, and systems for control and data acquisition.
The research focuses on the fundamental aspects of quantum phenomena in light and matter, and has several potential applications in quantum information technology, quantum electronics and nanotechnology.
The research is centered at fundamental aspects of the structure, reaction dynamics and kinetics of molecules in various environments and their interactions with electrons and electromagnetic fields.
We perform research on inherent properties of atomic systems and on atomic collision processes. The experiments are mostly carried out at the DESIREE facility at the Department of Physics.
Our research is focused on understanding the most fundamental particles and forces of nature, and on how these building blocks have shaped the history and structure of the cosmos.
At Fysikum we do research in theoretical and experimental physics in 7 different subjects. The research is usually done in projects. We collaborate with various departments and other universities.
Oruba Abu-Hammam and Furaha Bayibsa are studying physics in the Bachelor of Physics program, Jeehong Lee is in the fourth year of the Medical Radiation program. They are also Fysikum's student ambassadors for our social media and for the first time they have continued to communicate for another semester. Here they tell us about themselves.
I try to gain a full understanding of how the universe was created 13.8 billion years ago. As a cosmologist, I have the luxury of travelling out into the universe in my mind every day and see life on Earth from a different perspective. This makes it clear how precious our little planet is.
March 8 is International Women's Day and today we want to highlight women in physics. There are many examples including Marie Curie, Maria Goeppert Mayer and Lise Meitner to Fabiola Gianotti and Lene Hau. We also mention some of the female professors of physics who belong to the Fysikum.
No one has yet managed to combine Einstein’s general theory of relativity with quantum mechanics. Wallenberg Academy Fellow Magdalena Zych is rising to the challenge using a new mathematical framework in which time is the link between the theories.
In March every year we organise Open Day where you can meet our students, lecturers, study and career counsellors, and other staff. In 2024 Open Day takes place on 20 March.
