Project description

Subject: Theoretical Physics.

The newly established group of Quantum Phenomenology is hiring 2 PhD students in theoretical quantum physics. Research in the group focuses on quantum optics, quantum control and quantum information theory, both for applications and for basic research. A major research interest is the interface between gravity and low-energy quantum physics.

Projects will be supervised by Assistant Professor Igor Pikovski and may include topics in:

  • Optomechanics
  • Atomic technology such as atomic clocks and atomic fountains
  • Gravitational effects in the dynamics of quantum systems
  • Quantum gravity signatures at low energies
  • Gravitational wave detection
  • Quantum foundations

We seek motivated candidates with interest in fundamental quantum research that is close to quantum optics experiments. Previous research experience in quantum optics or quantum information is favorable. The starting date is flexible but January 1, 2020, is preferred.

The successfull applicants will be embedded in a vibrant research environment at AlbaNova which hosts the physics departments from both Stockholm University and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). Students will also benefit from interactions with the affiliated group of Prof. Frank Wilczek, as well as the Wallenberg Center for Quantum Technology that connects leading Swedish research groups in quantum computation, quantum metrology and quantum communication.
