Project description

We are searching for an outstanding individual to conduct original research on theoretical, phenomenological or observational aspects within astroparticle physics and cosmology, with a particular focus on axions and dark matter.

The recruited candidate will benefit from the lively interdisciplinary research environment in axion physics at Stockholm University. Primary funding is provided by the grant “Detecting Axion Dark Matter In The Sky And In The Lab” ( from the Swedish Science Foundation. Faculty members involved in this programme include:
David Marsh, Hiranya Peiris, Alexander Balatsky, Stefano Bonetti, Jan Conrad, Ariel Goobar, Jon Gudmundsson, Tim Linden, Igor Pikovski, and Frank Wilzcek, in addition to several postdocs and PhD students.  

The successful candidates will be part of the Oskar Klein Centre for Cosmoparticle Physics ( in Stockholm, a rich scientific environment that comprises more than a hundred researchers working in both theory and experiment in the fields of astronomy, astrophysics and particle physics at both Stockholm University and the Royal Institute for Technology. The OKC hosts a vibrant research program on dark matter, dark energy, transient and multimessenger astrophysics, galaxy evolution, structure formation, and related particle physics questions. Postdoctoral associates are also welcome to participate in Scientific Programs at Nordita, the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, which bring together groups of leading experts to work on specific topics for extended periods.

Main responsibilities

The position involves original research on cosmological and astrophysical signals from axions and axion-like particles. Depending on the recruited candidate’s interests, the work may include phenomenology, data analysis or theory.  The postdoctoral fellows will be expected to contribute to research, write up research for publication, collaborate effectively with local and international partners, and present their work at international conferences. Daily tasks may include theoretical calculations, numerical simulations, or working with observational data.
