Research at the CoPS division

The activities of the Cosmology, Particle Astrophysics and Strings (CoPS) involve many aspects of theoretical and experimental particle astrophysics, observational and theoretical cosmology, the use of supernovae and gravitational lensing to measure cosmological parameters, models for dark matter, and string theory.

Astroparticle Physics

In astroparticle physics we are interested in the constituents of the Universe, most notably the nature of dark matter. In our research we connect elementary particle physics, astronomy and astrophysics to explore the dark matter, both theoretically, but also phenomenologically togehter with experimental groups.

Cosmology

Cosmology observation and instrumentation work at the department includes supernovae, the cosmic microwave background, and large surveyes of galaxies. Theoretical work at the department includes the development of phenomenological aspects, and subsequent observational tests, of cosmological theories. Measurements that constrain fundamental physics are of particular interest to members of the cosmology group.

Gravity and High Energy Theory

Gravity theories include Einstein gravity, bimetric gravity, string theory and higher spin gravity, which can all be studied using methods of high energy theory. We can say for certain that the correct theory generalises Einstein gravity and is of utmost importance for cosmological history.
