Rektor har beslutat att anställa Iuliana Toma-Dasu och Henning Zettergren som professorer vid Fysikum vid Stockholms universitet från och med den 1 juli 2018. Beslutet är fattat efter deras ansökan om befordran. Iuliana Toma-Dasu kommer från Rumänien där hon erhöll sin masterexamen. Ionising radiation: both cure and cause of cancer
Ionising radiation is a two-edged sword with respect to cancer. On the one hand it is successfully used for treating malignant tumours; on the other hand it is a well-known carcinogen. During the last decades the life expectancy for many cancer patients has increased due to improvements in both early detection and therapy methods and therefore late effects become a matter of concern for the long term survivors of cancer therapy.

Radiation treatment is one of the main therapeutic modalities for the treatment of cancer. It succeeds in the eradication of tumours in many patients with the preservation of the vital functions of the nearby healthy organs. However increases in the success rate of treatment are still necessary and attempts to improve radiotherapy are continuously made as local tumour control and prevention of the metastatic spread are important requirements for the success of cancer treatment.
