One of the main of research directions at the Medical Radiation Physics division is focused on radiotherapy. Advanced radiotherapy involves intensive use of imaging as well as novel modalities to deliver, optimise and adapt the treatment. It also integrates radiobiological findings of translational character from the laboratory bench to the patient bed and poses new challenges with respect to the radioprotection aspects. The radiotherapy research projects therefore are very complex in their nature and have a highlyinterdisciplinary character.

The other main research direction is oriented towards radiation protection in general, on the one hand aiming at improving preparedness and competence in Sweden to cope with nuclear emergencies and on the other hand in medical applications in particular focusing on assessing and minimising the risk of stochastic detrimental effects of radiation such as induction of cancer after medical radiation exposures.
