This summer course is a practical and theoretical introduction to marine biology. Much of the course is devoted to field studies at the Askö and Tjärnö Marine Laboratories. We study marine ecology at the level of the organism, population and ecosystem, including biological interactions, ecophysiology, energy flows, and the effects of natural and human disturbance.

FIELD WORK AT ASKÖ Field investigations of shallow hard bottoms and bays, deep sediment and pelagic ecosystems. Sampling of coastal fish. Lab-based sorting and identification of field samples. Lab-based chlorophyll analyses.
